MOST OF THE execution-style murders over the years are linked to the illegal drug trade, police sources say.
Men referred to as “soldiers” were usually hired by drug bosses to “silence” those who either owed money, stole drugs or money, or were believed to have squealed to law enforcement or rival drug dealers, one source said.
“Most of the murders which are committed execution-style are usually as a result of money or drugs gone missing,” the source said.
He said “torture” was often involved and made reference to the grisly murder of Anthony “Tone” Coward in 2005 as an example. Coward was kidnapped on October 21 and his body was discovered two days later in the trunk of a car, with several gunshot wounds and other injuries. His hands were severed at the wrist and his eyes were bulging out of their sockets. (MB)
