THE PRESIDENT of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) has been sent packing back to his substantive job within the public sector.

Akanni McDowall, who has been acting as a health promotion officer within the Ministry of Health for the past two years, will be returning to his old job as an environmental health assistant – a junior position.

“Anything can happen once you’re standing up for the rights of workers,” McDowall said yesterday, adding, “I’ll not be deterred.”

The union’s general secretary Roslyn Smith was last night “crying foul over the sudden reversion” of McDowall, whom she noted had received favourable performance reports. (ES)
