Murphy’s Law at play in QEH blackout

THE QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL’S (QEH) stand-by generators are working perfectly.

But unfortunately for the medical health facility, its back-up supply could not be utilised during last week’s crippling power outage.

The hospital’s director of engineering Paula Agbowu told the SUNDAY SUN in a recent interview that contrary to popular belief, the generators did not malfunction last Saturday when a massive water leak led to a five-hour blackout that put patient care at risk.

“There was a misconception out there that the hospital doesn’t have working stand-by generators, but we have three 1.4 MVA (mega volt amp) generators at our disposal which are in working order,” the QEH’s chief engineer told the SUNDAY SUN. (BA)
