THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT AND WORKS (MTW) has launched a major assault on potholes.

Sources within and outside the ministry confirmed yesterday that special pothole crews had been assigned to every available truck and over the weekend hundreds of holes had been filled.

In fact, sources at C.O. Williams Construction said that at the request of the ministry, their asphalt plant at Lear’s, St Michael, worked overtime over the weekend to supply 90 tonnes of the hot mix on Saturday and a further 74 tonnes yesterday, and the ministry used trucks that carted away as little as one tonne up to ten tones at a time.

When a NATION team caught up with a crew operating MTW’s only working pothole patcher, one of four trucks equipped specially for the task, it had already covered the section of Highway 4 between Howell’s Cross Road and the roundabout at Welches, St Michael.
