Marking 50 in style

THE COLOURFUL and exciting fireworks display last Friday at midnight reflected a great night spent at the Fifty/50 event at Hilton Barbados Resort.

The event was held to commemorate Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence and celebrate the hotel’s 50 years in Barbados. It was well attended by a cross-section of locals and visitors who partied the night away on the beach. The date had been shifted because of the inclement weather.

With food stations set up around the beach, the menu was diverse and appealing. There was a red herring dish with a warning that it contained bones.

The soups – Bajan chicken soup with barley dumplings and Thai curry split pea with toasted coconut soup – went fast; while a whole pig was served up, roasted for over 12 hours. The fishcakes were delicious, as were the bakes. (NS)
