Market Mess

PUTRID SMELLS WAFTING through the City air, the smell of rum, coconut shells toppled clumsily on a lone skit and clogged gutters describe the current state of the site of the former Fairchild Street market.

The entrance to the main hub of the vendors who ply their trade day in and day out said that they have had enough.

One Fairchild Street food stall owner who did not want to be identified, said that she believed some of the litter bugs crawled from the Cheapside market further down town along with some from the neighbouring Nelson Street community.

“I find it very unreasonable to the Sanitation workers for the illegal dumping to be taking place here, yes they are doing that job in [garbage collection] but at the same time they are human too,” she said. (MR)
