RESIDENTS IN MANY southern districts were hit with a water outage earlier this morning.

It stemmed from challenges the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) experienced when upgrading the Hampton Pumping Station, said BWA corporate communications specialist Joy-Ann Haigh.

Speaking to NATION ONLINE, Haigh said the BWA was aware of the problem and had tankers out to assist those who needed water.

She explained that the BWA had given residents notice that there were plans to upgrade the Hampton Station yesterday from around 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

However, she said that there were some challenges in doing this, which resulted in delays to the water service being restored in areas in Christ Church and St Philip.

In addition to this, Haigh said the BWA was also investigating reports of a ruptured 16 inch main in Woodbourne, St Philip and if confirmed, this could also cause possible service disruptions. (AD)
