AFTER A LONG WAIT of 20 years, crowds gathered on the field of the Barbados National Oil Company Ltd were finally able to hear Gordon Walters Primary School’s Barrow Tigers (Yellow House) roar.

And roar they did, when they were announced the winners of the inter-house sports with 738 points. Last year’s winners Wilson Eagles (Red House) had to settle for second place with 700 points, while Dottin Warriors (Blue House) placed third with 669 points.

The showers which blessed the group just before lunch did little to dampen spirits as the sports day stopped for a short while, and resumed once the sun started peeking again.

Victor ludorum and boys Under-11 division champion was Tishon Brathwaite, who gained 51 points after winning the long jump, cricket ball throw and 100, 200 and 400 metre races.

The title of victrix ludorum and girls Under-11 division champion was captured by Avielle Small, who amassed 53 points in the long jump, 100, 200, 400 and 600 metre dashes.

Under-13 division champions were Keaton Maynard-Browne with 48 points, and Danika Applewhite with 36 points, while the Under-9 champion title was won by Cara Small who earned 32 points, and Jawayn Maynard who earned himself 38 points.

Not to be forgotten on the sidelines, the babies of the school in the Under-7 division also copped titles in Jadazia Jones who scored 18 points, and Reshawn Roberts-Fields,15. (RA)
