TWO YOUNG Caribbean footballers have been invited to go to the United States for trials with the S. League.

Paradise striker 17-year-old Elijah Downey and 22-year-old Mickeel Gordon of Trinidad and Tobago flew yesterday, to Florida for their first trial match with Charleston Battery tomorrow.

Also tomorrow, assessments would be made by the coaching staff to determine who would be selected for further trials or possible contracts. The trials include individual assessments which would include small side games, technical games and full side games.

Trials will be held from February 8 to 17.

On Sunday the finalists will make their way to Pennsylvania, and on Monday they will play with Harrisburg City Islanders at the Net Sports Complex. They will then leave Pennsylvania on Wednesday, and head to North Carolina where they will play with Charlotte Independence Ortho at Carolina Sports Complex.

Downey is at present representing his club in the Digicel Premier League competition.

Last year he, along with three other local boys, travelled to England. Unfortunately he was injured during trials and had to sit out the season, but it is expected he would return to England this summer. (RA)
