DR DELISLE WORRELL remains Governor of the Central Bank – at least for the next 48 hours.

After a three-hour hearing today, Justice Randall Worrell kept an injunction against the Minister of Finance in place until the court gives a decision on the matter on Friday.

The injunction blocks any attempt to remove the governor while the matter is before the court.

The smiling 72-year-old governor arrived for the hearing in chamber of the No. 9 Supreme Court in an unprecedented legal battle to retain his job as the head of the monetary regulator.

However, at the end he declined to comment and exited via the back way of the Supreme Court Complex, leaving his attorney Gregory Nicholls to field questions from journalists waiting on the outside of the building.

Nicholls said he was confident as he awaited Friday’s decision while Solicitor General Jennifer Edwards QC and Deputy Solicitor General Donna Brathwaite QC did not comment.

Nicholls maintained that Minister Sinckler did not have the power to remove the Dr Worrell who has been there since 2009, and along with the injunction which keeps the minister from acting against the governor, the attorney is also set to file the substantive case against Sinckler.

Sinckler, whose affidavit has been filed in response to the matter, did not appear in the court, and it is uncertain whether he will put in an appearance on Friday. (AC)
