RSPCA wants ease on meds

ONE OF THE island’s animal charities and no-kill facilities wants an ease in duties it has to pay on imported medication.

President of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), Pooka Yhap, made the plea as the Cheltenham Lodge, Spring Garden veterinary hospital unveiled its 20 new adoption kennels at a thank-you event last Thursday.

The kennels, for dogs awaiting their forever homes, were financed mainly through donations from philanthropic individuals and companies and were opened a year after the RSPCA officially unveiled its new facilities.

Yhap stressed that not only was the RSPCA a veterinary hospital, but also a charity that catered to the community, and a 24-hour facility. One of its major expenses was medication which had to be imported, and attracted duties.
