FARM LABOUR WORKERS who engage in growing marijuana on farms in Canada have been put on notice.
Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer Suckoo has not only warned them about the possibility of facing criminal charges in Canada, she also said such actions had the potential to threaten the viability of the farms on which the marijuana was found.
“When an employer sees something like that, he will not be sending back for you . . . nor would we be asking anybody . . . to send back for you as well. How do we know that you will not be doing the same thing again?” Byer Suckoo told potential workers in the programme during a workshop at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Monday.
James Inniss, in the farm programmes’s Liaison Officer’s Report for 2016, said: “In September, marijuana was found growing on one of the farms. This is the second occasion that such a thing has happened and, obviously, the employer was very angry.” (LK)
