LOCAL TENNIS is looking at widening its base.

The Barbados Tennis Association is hoping to see a rise in “tournament players” and the better development of its youngsters after outsourcing the junior programme to coaching company, Simply Tennis.

BTA council member Bernard Frost spoke of the new arrangement in a wide-ranging interview in light of the executive’s dissatisfaction with the number of promising junior players in Barbados.

“We will be offering a very reasonable price to open the door more or less to the sport for people who may think tennis is not for them or too expensive. We want to create that atmosphere where they want to come out and play tennis. In order to build this nucleus of players we have to open up the sport to as many players as possible,” explained Simply Tennis assistant coach Roger Millar.(JM)
