Death Trap

A ROUNDABOUT or stop lights and pedestrian crossings.

These are the suggested remedies for the long stretch of road at Westmoreland, St James, where a night-time accident earlier this week left 49-year-old Anderson Joseph dead and his five-year-old son Nazaria fighting for his life in hospital.

The road has been problematic for years but the issue was brought back into sharp focus following the fatality. The WEEKEND NATION team spoke to residents there to get a feel for the pulse of the people.

Diana Small has lived in Westmoreland all her life and is more than fed up with the road safety issues. While it is an excellent route for motorists, who often speed along, she said it was horrible for pedestrians. (CA)
