ELECTRICITY WAS RESTORED this morning to customers after a truck damaged power lines in Lower Estate, St George yesterday evening.

According to a media release from The Barbados Light & Power Company, a crew responded to the incident around 4:20 p.m. where a truck, entangled in telephone lines, broke a pole and damaged overhead electricity high voltage lines.

“Major repair work was required and continued through the night. This work impacted customers in Hothersal Turning, Jackmans and Belle. Power was fully restored at 7:18 a.m.,” the statement said.

“We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused by this situation and sincerely thank them for their patience. We thank our team of employees, contractors and partners as well for their diligent work in dark conditions and for doing so safely.”

The truck, which is owned by CO Williams Construction, was driven by Julius Payne.

When the power lines came down,  they landed on a vehicle driven by Michael Hunte and both men scrambled to escape the live wires.

Electricity was turned off as the team from Light and Power moved to repair and transfer lines to a new pole. (PR/SAT)
