BARBADOS PRIDE fast bowler Kemar Roach effected a double-strike in an impressive post-lunch spell but Windward Islands Volcanoes remained in control at tea on the first day of their Digicel Regional 4-Day match at Kensington Oval today.
Roach removed opener Tyrone Theophile and Taryk Gabriel in successive legitimate balls shortly after lunch but with veteran Devon Smith approaching a century and Keddy Lesporis lashing an enterprising half-century, the visitors were well placed at 219 for three.
Looking to regain his place in the West Indies team, Roach produced an inspired effort in which he trapped Theophile lbw on the back foot for 44. After delivering a wide, Roach removed Gabriel with a beauty that was edged to the keeper as Windwards lost both wickets in the fourth over after lunch which was taken at 116 without loss.
Lesporis counter-attacked to hit 59 off 62 balls and dominated a third wicket partnership of 78 with Smith.
The left-handed Smith, who was 66 at lunch, slowed considerably in the second session and was unbeaten on 90 at tea, having batted for four hours and faced 176 balls.
Lesporis was stumped attempting a wild swing against left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican in the same over he lifted the bowler over long-on for six. (HG)
