DEVON SMITH hit a typically disciplined century, but the combined efforts of spin and pace ensured Barbados Tridents and Windward Islands Volcanoes shared the honours yesterday on the opening day of the Digicel Regional First Class seventh-round contest at Kensington Oval.
Smith’s 28th first-class century and his fourth against Barbados, set the stage for an imposing score after the Windward Islands opted to bat on winning the toss.
But pacer Kemar Roach bowled brilliantly to take four for 22, while Jomel Warrican’s clever left-arm spin earned him four for 69 as Windward Islands made 293 all out off 85 overs.
In four overs before the close, Barbados replied with 22 without loss. Anthony Alleyne is unbeaten on 13 and captain Kevin Stoute, opening because of an injury to Omar Phillips who was struck on the helmet while fielding at forward short leg, is on eight. (PH)
