THE BARBADOS SECONDARY Teachers’ Union (BSTU) has summoned its full membership to a special meeting tomorrow afternoon at Solidarity House at 1 p.m.

President of the teachers’ body, Mary Redman, has convened the meeting to discuss a controversial letter sent to it by the Ministry of Education, concerning the long battle for payment for marking of Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) papers.

“This letter details that charges of ‘misconduct of a serious nature’ would be brought against any teacher who either does not correct the CXC’s school-based assessment or who refuses to enter such marks into the relevant data base for CXC’s use.

The BSTU abhors the bullying threats of the ministry in this regard and recognises the attempted precedent to unilaterally change the terms and conditions of work of teachers in Barbados,” Redman said in the statement. (BA)
