ANOTHER Government minister is speaking out against demands for a 23 per cent pay increase for public sector workers.
Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator Darcy Boyce, yesterday joined Minister of Industry and Commerce Donville Inniss in his opposition to the call by the National Union of Public Workers.
As the Senate continued debate on the Appropriation Bill 2017, he said the claim would worsen the fiscal situation in the country by adding a further burden on the total wage bill of around $1.2 billion, inclusive of central Government and state-owned enterprises.
Boyce said even a pay hike of ten per cent would amount to $122 million, also affecting the amount paid out in pensions. (WILLCOMM)
