WHY PUT A BAN on music?

This is the general consensus of several drivers and conductors of public service vehicles (PSVs) who are against the move by Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley to ban the playing of music in these vehicles come June.

Lashley made this announcement while speaking at the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure last month. He linked the behaviour of students to the subculture he said was being fostered through the kind of music being played. However, his comments did not sit well with some PSV operators from the River van stand.

Michael Brathwaite, who has been conducting PSVs for years, told the SATURDAY SUN he was not upset by the Lashley’s idea but stated the ban should be placed on certain genres. (SB)
