CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS), James Paul, wants local farmers to increase their production.
And he believes that import substitution is the way to do it.
Speaking during a press conference at the BAS’s Grotto, St Michael headquarters this week, Paul said if Barbados was serious about developing the agriculture sector, this was indeed the way to go.
Import substitution refers to the use of domestic products to replace imported goods, or limiting the importation of industrial manufactured goods to promote domestic industrialisation. (RB)
