CONDE RILEY was elected as the new Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) president last night in his third attempt to secure the sport’s top local administrative post.
In one of the most eagerly anticipated elections battles in recent years, this one was triggered by the departure of Joel Garner, Riley, a vastly experienced administrator who was first elected to the board in 1996, convincingly brushed aside the challenge of former first vice-president Deighton Smith and former third vice-president Erskine King.
Before a standing room only turnout at the 15th special meeting of members at the Hilton Hotel, Riley, a retired banker, polled 284 votes, way more than King, a former National Sports Council director of sports, who received 85 votes. (HG)
