Northern Star set to shine

Without doubt the best creole in the country, Northern Star has sped to four consecutive victories including one over Gold Cup winner Dorsett.

Partnered by jockey Antonio Whitehall, who recently returned from another successful stint in Canada, the pair looks the safest combination to the Super Lotto purse of $46.150 when the race runs off at 4:15 p.m.

Midsummer Classic winners Nekitta and Donicodidit will be looking to topple the Mervyn Rollins colt, which is co-owned by title-hunting trainer Victor Cheeseman.

Nekitta, after two resounding wins in Boxing Day Stakes and the Coolmore “Home of Champion” Stakes, has been knocking on the doors without getting back into the winners circle.

Like most entered she has felt the fury of a rampaging Northern Star and will need divine intervention to triumph.

Donicodidit, inspite of consistently placing in the top four, is on the verge of going winless for the year.

Voldemort pulled off a hard-fought win against lesser company, his first win in two years but he is now tossed in the pressure cooker and could be found wanting when the heat is turned up.

After her impressive triumph in this year’s Derby, Butterfly will now experience what it’s like to swim with sharks.

Her light impost and class could make her a serious predator, while Spartacus with five victories at the trip, creates the biggest stir.

However, he is still to prove himself when confronted with big weight; therefore he will need another gear or two to get the job done. Banja, following a Tanglewood loss to Northern Star has hardly put a foot wrong, reeling off five victories in nine races.

The question is: Were those wins enough preparation for this rematch? Stolen has never won a race with Northern Star, a position that is unlikely to change now. Ninepoint Six-Nine stunned Northern Star earlier this year but is now awaiting sentencing.

The eight-race programme starting 1 p.m. – dubbed The Barbados Lottery Barbados Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Breeders’ Classic and Juvenile Raceday will feature two other main attractions.

Watch That Birdie in the one to catch in the Instant Scratch Ticket Sale Graduates’ Sprint Cup Handicap over 1 100 metres.

Blessed with an abundance of early speed, don’t be surprised if she makes every pole a winning one. Looking to clip her wings will be teh inform Poetry In Motion, whose apprentice claim makes her potent to the Aysha Syndicate filly. My Man Gone West appears best of the others, while the out of form Leaping Leopard and Fleurette should be given some consideration.

Mr Arjay’s Quality Star, winner of three of his four starts, will also meet the fleet-footed Aysha Syndicate’s Peruvian, who won two of his three outings. This pair will line up with seven others in the Double Draw/Mega 6 Juvenile Breeders’ Stakes and Trophy over 1 100 metres.
