He was a protective father who went to the defence of his daughter.

But the method Troy Ryan O’Neal Jordan used landed him in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Jordan, of Green Hill Drive, Silver Hill, Christ Church, admitted unlawfully assaulting Makajah Barrow, and that he assaulted Indica Thorne, occasioning her actual bodily harm on November 26.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing a Farmer’s Choice picnic ham worth $81, belonging to Cherish on November 29.

He has 16 previous convictions and had only come out of prison in August.

The court had heard, from prosecutor Sergeant Cameron Gibbons that Jordan’s daughter attended a cruise on the Harbour Master and when she returned to the area of Pirates Cove, she telephoned her father, who met her there.

There had been an altercation between Jordan’s daughter and the two girls and Jordan drew a sword and beat Makajah Barrow about the body. He further used that sword to poke at Indica Thorne before he chopped at her. When he missed, he ran at her causing her to fear for her life.

The girls reported the matters to police and Jordan was arrested.

In relation to the theft charge, Sergeant Gibbons said the thief went into the supermarket where the supervisor was informed about his behaviour. The supervisor saw Jordan place the ham in a bag he was carrying.

He was approached and he took the ham from the bag, saying: “I ain’t t’ief no ham. Look the ham here.”

Jordan’s attorney Mohia Ma’at later told the court Jordan’s daughter felt threatened and “to her saving grace she called daddy”.

“But she was unable to control his temper and he erupted when he went to the defence of his daughter. It was wrong,” the attorney admitted.

Ma’at said the father of two girls had been employed for the last 15 years.

Jordan, in his defence to the shoplifting charge, said he had placed the ham in his bag but “at the last minute, I take it out and put it in the box”.

“So he didn’t hold me with it,” Jordan told the court.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant fined him $800 forthwith for the theft charge or six months in prison. The fine was not paid and Jordan was led away to serve the alternative sentence. The magistrate adjourned the assault matters until February 28 when the complainants are expected to appear. (HLE)
