THE DAYS OF the Cricket West Indies (CWI) walking with a big stick are over.

Delivering the warning was Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley, who yesterday told the regional sporting institution to pay the $1.4 million owed to Kensington Oval Management Inc. (KOMI).

“In relation to the [CWI] it appears to have been that there is a practice that once you are having those major tournaments, you can come and demand your rates and so on and leave Kensington Oval holding the buck.

“I want to send the signal that those days have passed. I would also urge the [CWI] to pay up what it owes Kensington Oval,” he said

Lashley was commenting on the news that Government had not signed off on a Letter of Intent to host the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 as reported in yesterday’s MIDWEEK NATION. He said it asked Government to sign off on waiving taxes and customs, and also waiver licences for stadiums and venues hosting events. (AD)
