It was a real thriller on Thursday night. Keshawn Haynes had an impressive brace, including the game’s equaliser to help St James Central play to a gripping 3-3 draw with St James South in the National Sports Council/Youth Development Programme Under-17 Football Tournament.
Playing at the Speightstown field, Haynes slotted home in the 61st minute to give St James Central a well deserved point in a riveting showdown with their parish neighbours.
Central actually led the game twice, as Lex Smith gave them an early advantage in the third minute before Nici Blackman levelled the scores 13 minutes later for St James South.
Haynes then put Central back ahead in the 25th until Jonathan Herbert scored on either side of the break to give South a stunning 2-1 lead.
Coleridge and Parry’s former Inter-School sports victor ludorum Enrique Babb had a brace of his own in St Lucy’s 2-0 blanking of St Andrew at the same venue.
Earlier, Tyreke King also scored two goals to lead St James North to a 2-1 victory over St Peter. King struck in the 13th and 27th minutes before Xario Prescod pulled one back for the losers in the 58th.
At Friendship, four different players scored for St Michael North West in their easy 4-0 win against St Michael Central while St Michael North East strolled to a similarly routine 3-0 blanking of St Michael North.
St Michael West had a tougher time of it though, as Steven Carrington scored the game’s lone goal in a 1-0 victory over St Michael West Central.
Christ Church West and Christ Church East Central played to a hard 1-1 draw over at Briar Hall while Paul Payne and Darian Croney led Christ Church South in their 2-0 win against St George South.
On Wednesday, Rinko Griffith had a double strike against a ten-man St George North in St Philip North’s 5-0 triumph over at Market Hill.
Kaline Als’ double strike pushed St Philip South over St Philip West 3-1 at the same venue while St John downed St Joseph 2-0.
Over at Parkinson, Jaydon Sealy and Ray Francis led St Michael South East’s come from behind 2-1 victory over St Thomas while Shakeem Boyce scored the lone goal in St Michael South’s 1-0 win against St Michael East. (JM)
