At 12: 40 a.m. MC Jamarr De Star announced Lil Rick to take his first Sweet Soca title.

And it was a hard fought battle for the new Sweet Soca monarch who scored full points of 100. He placed third in the Party Monarch, losing his spot to new monarch Mikey.

With no defending monarch in RPB, the field was wide open to nine competent artistes which included former monarchs and the reigning Pic-O-De-Crop monarch.

Lil Rick is $116 000 richer after winning a Mazda 3 HB valued $79 900, along with cash and prizes in the MQI 98.1 The One Soca Royale.

The small crowd that waited behind to hear the winners definitely had their winner before he took to the stage.

The new king will reign for a year in the elite competition which had some of the sweetest songs for the Crop Over 2018 season.

It took the judges just over an hour and 30 minutes to come back with both results of Party and Sweet Soca and as they departed the venue under police escort the restless crowd surged nearer to the stage.

“I feel good. I will tell you why. This is soca spouge and it is alive. We created this.”

Fourth place went to first timer Bo Bo with 48 points, third to Biggie Irie with 62 points. Second went to Mikey with Feting Family at 78 points which was disputed by many in the crowd. (NS)
