Christopher Henry Gayle bade farewell to regional List A competition on Saturday with a compelling all-round performance that led Jamaica Scorpions to victory by 33 runs over Barbados Pride at Kensington Oval.

After announcing that the match would be his final appearance for his native country, the former West Indies captain hammered a pugnacious 122 in the Scorpions’ 226 all out from 47.4 overs.

It was a typically powerful performance from the 39-year-old Gayle, but he can count himself lucky as he was dropped at one and 108.

Having been handed the honour of captaincy by regular skipper Nikita Miller for the Zone B second round contest, the self-proclaimed “Universe Boss” later returned to capture the wicket of his opposite number Shamar Brooks in the first over of an economical ten-over spell and snapped up two catches at slip as the home side stumbled to 193 off 47.5 overs.
