BusinessmanĀ Charles Herbert who is on $400 000 bail in relation to drug trafficking charges, has been allowed to travel overseas. Permission was given a few days ago.
This was confirmed by his attorney Andrew Pilgrim QC, who dismissed suggestions that Herbert, the former chairman of Goddard Enterprises and the Barbados Private Sector Association (BPSA), had received special treatment because of his status and race.
āI am embarrassed for Bajans. Race makes everything exciting and salacious. The only other time I heard this raised, the client was Indian,ā said Pilgrim, as he stressed that being allowed to travel while on bail was not unusual.
āThis is most common in Barbados once the sureties are aware and present, and an application is made on presentation of an itinerary. I have made similar successful applications for over 100 different clients of all shapes, sizes and colours. I have clients who are studying overseas and return home for court,ā said the former president of the Barbados Bar Association. (SP)
