A new path for student cricketers

The cricket programme of the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) is critical in creating a pathway for student cricketers and expanding a talent pool of “thinking cricketers” for the West Indies selectors.

That’s the view of University of the West Indies (UWI) Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles following CCC Marooners’ capture of the regional Super50 Cup at Kensington Oval on Sunday night.

After the students defeated Guyana Jagaurs by six wickets in the day/night final to claim their first regional title, Sir Hilary, who negotiated the inclusion of CCC in the regional first-class competition during his time as principal of the Cave Hill Campus, hailed the achievement of the Carlos Brathwaite-led side.

“Today our students have inspired the cricket world of the Caribbean and beyond, in both the execution of their victory and in the explicit display of high sporting values and principles,” he said. (HG)
