Perennial powerhouses Chargers appear to be at loggerheads with the Barbados Volleyball Association (BVA) and could face possible suspension and fines following a near league-wide boycott of Goddard Enterprises Limited Division One men’s matches.
The BVA executive was scheduled to hold an emergency meeting last night after Chargers, Cawmere, All Stars, Progressive and Foundation signed a petition stating they won’t play anymore fixtures before meeting with the council regarding the outcome of a game between Chargers and Deacons.
Chargers, Foundation and All Stars failed to turn up to Oldbury on Monday before Chargers were once again a no-show for Wednesday’s rescheduled fixture with Deacons.
“The five teams will not be playing until we meet. I already missed two games but I don’t want to miss anymore. So right now, it’s not about replacing the executive. I just want to know the outcome of my game,” said Chargers president Dale Addison.
But league rules state that a team defaulting three matches will be withdrawn from the competition, fined $1 500 and face likely suspension from all organised volleyball in the region.
“The meeting will determine [what action we will take] because we offered to meet with them as early as possible. If someone indicates they have a pressing matter and we try to accommodate them and meet as soon as possible, then they shouldn’t be asking to meet a week later,” said acting BVA president Kenmore Bynoe hours before the executive meeting.
