Though Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy Kirk Humphrey was unable to say just how many will be getting wages again, he promised the number will be noteworthy.
“In our conversation with [Caribbean Consultants Limited], we made it clear and they were more than willing to do it. Some of the persons who were retrenched from a lot of the Government agencies should be given first priority and the capacity to work as part of the promise the Prime Minister made, that we would be re-employing persons who were sent home, so a number of persons who were laid off will be working on this project.
“…But we wouldn’t be sure of the numbers as yet, but I am happy to say it will be a significant number of people,” Humphrey said at Harbour Road yesterday during a groundbreaking ceremony.
The entire project will employ about 200 people at a cost of $20 million and, once completed, the building will be 50 per cent solar-powered. (TG)
