by Trevor Thorpe KELVIN “BIRD” DANIEL and Fabian Reeves will wear national colours as they take on the motorcycle might of the Caribbean at the St Lucia Independence Drag Wars meet on Saturday and Sunday at the View Fort Base Dragstrip.

The event is part of the 40th anniversary of “The Helen Of The West Indies” and has attracted riders from St Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago and host country St Lucia.

Both riders are looking forward to the event.

After taking a break from competition last year, Daniel will be on board the Sun General/MB Auto City/Wow Displays Kawasaki ZX10R, while Reeves will be riding his recently acquired Black Knights Bikers/ Belleville Auto Spares Kawasaki ZX1000R.

“It should be a very competitive event as the riders have good bikes and are expected to be coming very well prepared for the event,” Daniel said.

He is no stranger to the Base Dragstrip as he is the record holder in St Lucia of 9.129 seconds for the quarter-mile, which he posted two years ago.

Reeves, the 2018 drag racing champion, rode his Kawasaki Ninja to the 6-7 seconds category title, posting the fastest time of 6.831 seconds.

The weekend’s action in St Lucia also includes the annual Independence Island Ride, a car show and a Super Moto Race in Castries.
