BCC students shine with talent

BCC’s Got Talent fulfilled its aim of showcasing some of the talent that BCC has to offer last Saturday. It all started last November when students from all divisions were invited to a series of auditions to perform what they believed were their best talents.

Twenty went to the semi-finals last November and ten made it to the finals: Joshua Archer, Jessica Cyrilien, Tinesha Drayton, Theo Greenidge, Kayla Lambert, Luanne Philémon, Trinity Thompson, Stephan Ward, Jessica Greene and Khai Williams all performed in front of a full house on Saturday night.

Greenidge took first place with a powerful spoken word piece. The only spoken word performer for the night, performed a piece that was centred on Black History Month, the times when he believes that a black man only matters to the world. Greenidge said that he enjoyed every minute of his performance and was glad he caught the attention of everyone in the crowd. He was especially grateful to his fellow contestants, who became like brothers and sisters to him.

First runner-up Jessica Cyrilien sang Vice Versa Love by Barrington Levy and second runner-up Kayla Lambert sang You Don’t Own Me by Grace and G-Easy.

President of the Students’ Guild, Kobie Broomes, expressed his satisfaction with the event and his team for pulling it off. He said that BCC’s Got Talent was one of the events along with various fetes and sessions hosted by the students’ guild as a means to revive some of the activity that the school before the guild’s hiatus in 2013. To him, the event was well supported and only showcased a fraction of all the talent that BCC has to offer.

Director of social activities and producer of the talent show Rachael Lewis, was grateful to the guild council and the sponsors of the show. “I took the initiative not only to showcase the talent that the students have but to also to bring some life into BCC. It is important to me that schools ensure that students not only learn at school but have the opportunity to create new memories.” (PR)
