3 days without water

Share post:

Day 3 and no water. From as far north as Battaleys in St Peter, to Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church, in the south, that was the cry of Barbadians in six parishes yesterday as the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) continued to wrestle with outages.

Some educational institutions were affected, with the University of the West Indies (UWI) appearing the hardest hit as the majority of the Cave Hill campus was without water.

BWA marketing officer Yvette Harris-Griffith said the outages were due to different factors.

“We are in the process of upgrading the desalination plant at Ionics Freshwater Limited on Spring Garden, so consequently, the facility remains offline,” she said.

But while the authority made adjustments at the Belle Pumping Station to make up the deficit, those efforts “did not yield the anticipated results”, she said in a statement. (NS)
