Wales edge out BDFSP

WEYMOUTH WALES came from a goal down at half-time to beat Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) 2-1 and lift the Barbados Football Association’s Champions Cup trophy on Sunday night.

Captain Raheim Sargeant opened the scoring with a moment of brilliant individual skill in the 20th minute, to evade two players during a stunning run, before calmly slotting home to beat keeper Omari Eastmond.

But Romario “Pete” Harewood equalised six minutes from the final whistle, to force extra time, and super sub Arantees Lawrence got the perfect Father’s Day gift, when he got on the end of a cross from Antoine “Pookie” Greaves to deny the BDFSP from achieving the domestic double at the Wildey Turf.

It was the sixth time both teams met for the season, with two draws, BDFSP winning twice and Wales once prior to kick-off.  (AG-B)
