Neighbours want better for centenarian

A FAMILY MEMBER and a few neighbours were the only people who turned up at Colin Layne’s humble abode yesterday to greet him on his 100th birthday.

And while Barbados’ latest centenarian was in a jovial mood, those around him lamented the state of his living conditions and the lack of assistance from Government agencies to make him comfortable in his sunset years.

Layne, who lives in Pounders Gap, Westbury Road, St Michael, was featured in the NATION three years ago when neighbour Deighton Griffith called to highlight his situation. At that time he pleaded with Government agencies to assist Layne in repairing his dilapidated home.

To this day, Griffith said no help was forthcoming. (MB)
