IN OVERCAST conditions more suited to swing bowling, Barbadian tennis’ “king of swing” brought some cheer to a bleak day for the Bajan contingent yesterday at the 18th Pan American Games.

As he has done over the years, whether at home or abroad, Darian King ruled supreme when lesser beings faltered as he beat Samuel Riffice of the United States 6-4, 6-3 in 89 minutes of a bruising contest.

Earlier, King saw teammate Haydn Lewis go down to Roberto Cid of the Dominican Republic 2-6, 3-6. (KB)
