Farmers suffering from drought conditions and losses at the Spring Hall Land Lease Project in St Lucy, were upset after discovering their water was locked off on Tuesday.
And it was only after a hastily-arranged meeting yesterday with Minister of Agriculture Indar Weir, officials from the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC), and 13 members of the Spring Hall Farmers’ Association that a truce was reached and the pipes flowed again.
After the four-hour meeting at the ministry’s headquarters in Graeme Hall, Christ Church, chairman of the Spring Hall Farmers’ Association, Hamilton Corbin, reported progress.
“We discussed the shutting off of our water and the outstanding debt we had for the BADMC,” he said. “We also spoke about our losses as a result of the drought and the water issues we were experiencing for a while.” (SB)
