Asha has the key to cash security

Asha Forde’s journey has been anything but easy, and as she likes to put it, it has been “autodidactic”, meaning she’s taught herself how to become the person she is today.

The 27-year-old financial advisor has recently taken the route of teaching millennials like herself all about financial freedom and security.

However, it was a path she only “stumbled” upon.

“I somehow stumbled into the insurance industry. I always had a chic presence and meticulous personality, and I am very well mannered. One day, I went into the bathroom and ran into one of my primary school mates and she said, ‘I want you to come and meet my manager’.

“Later that day, I went over to her office to meet her manager, as we were situated in the same building. From the first time we met, we clicked and she was like, ‘Come and work for me; I promise you this is the place for you, and you’ll love it’. And now, five years later, I’m doing what I love and couldn’t see myself anywhere else,” she said.

Asha, who works at one of the leading insurance companies in Barbados, said it was never something she imagined doing but agreed it was the perfect fit for her.

“My dream job was to be a financial controller at a successful company. While studying and deciding the career path I wanted to take, a financial advisor was never in my thoughts, but somehow it worked out and I absolutely love advising individuals financially,” she said.

As with all journeys, the former Alexandra School student didn’t have it easy but she also kept her goal of being successful forefront in her mind. (DB)
