Roach fired up, but Jaguars hit back

It didn’t take long yesterday for Kemar Roach to show he is the best fast bowler in the Caribbean.

But Guyana Jaguars’ obdurate opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul also showed why patience is a virtue in first-class cricket with a solid, if not spectacular, unbeaten 66 off 274 balls in six hours and 34 minutes of tenacious batting to defy Roach, who returned the fine figures of four for 28 off 18 probing overs.

The diminutive 23-year-old Guyanese left-hander vigilantly anchored a fantastic fightback by the five-time defending champions, who reached 209 for eight off 87 overs at stumps on first day of their second round match in the Regional Four-Day Championship on a grassy Kensington Oval pitch.  (EZS)
