Coach feeling the Pride

BARBADOS PRIDE head coach Emmerson Trotman is quietly confident that his team can deny Guyana Jagaurs an unprecedented sixth capture of the Regional Four-Day Championship.

The Pride finished runners-up to the Jaguars for five successive seasons since the introduction of franchise system in 2014-15 but Barbados have mounted a strong challenge at the start of this year’s competition to register two wins from their first three matches.

Having beaten the Jaguars in their second round contest at Kensington Oval, the Pride are virtually level with them in the standings, prompting optimism from Trotman that his team can go on to win the championship.

“The boys are aware of the last five years. We’ve got a good side, we’ve got a good bench, good players on the sidelines who are eager and waiting to get in. I’m confident going forward that the unit is pretty good. We’ve got players like Carlos Brathwaite and Akeem Jordan on the sidelines who are eager to get in. I am quite comfortable and confident as well,” he told NATION SPORT.

Pacers Kemar Roach, Chemar Holder and Keon Harding combined to share 14 wickets to lead the Pride to a seven-wicket victory over the defending champions and Holder took centre stage with an 11-wicket match haul in a 119-run win over Jamaica at Sabina Park in Kingston last weekend.
