Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is committed to the eventual construction of a cruise pier in the north of Barbados.

She says it is necessary so the north of Barbados, particularly the historic village of Speightstown, can reach its true potential as a heritage area which can attract visitors for consistent periods.

She made the announcement yesterday moments before officially renaming the Speightstown Bypass Road as the KNR Husbands Highway, after the late Sir Kenmore Husbands, the first black speaker of Barbados’ House of Assembly, in 1948.

The Prime Minister gave her personal and the Cabinet’s commitment to looking at a pier which would attract small and medium-sized vessels on a weekly basis, and ramp up the highly regarded Speightstown Alive events, which are organised to maintain interest in the town. (BA)
