Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley joined several prominent women around the world to participate in the United Nations’ Rise for All video launch yesterday.
Convened by UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Rise for All brought together women leaders to mobilise support for the UN roadmap to tackle the development emergency, as laid out in the United Nations Framework for the immediate socio-economic response to COVID-19.
This global advocacy effort to save lives and protect livelihood, urges leaders in all countries, across all sectors, to address the human crisis of the pandemic. It calls for solidarity and urgent action in response to the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic.
During the three-minute video, which was shown on UN WebTV, Mottley said: “Each country can start to prioritise during this moment, when the world is being asked to pause; that we can come back fitter and better.”
Noting that the pandemic can be fought, the Prime Minister continued: “We can do it working together, but we need to respect each other, to see each other and to hear each other.”
She stressed that the COVID-19 battle could be won with solidarity.
The other prominent women featured in the video are: the President of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde; the Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg, who is the Sustainable Development Goals Advocate of the Secretary-General; Sustainable Development Goals Advocate of the Secretary-General, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser; Sustainable Development Goals Advocate of the Secretary-General, Dia Mirza; UN Women Goodwill Ambassador of Pakistan, Muniba Mazari; along with the Executive Directors of UNICEF, Henrietta Fore, of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, and of UNFPA, Natalia Kanem.
