Barbados Water Authority (BWA) workers are fixing a nine-inch burst main at Tichbourne, St Michael.
Thousands of gallons of water gushed from the main earlier this morning before BWA employees reached the scene to begin repairs.
BWA’s marketing officer Yvette Harris-Griffith confirmed that the areas affected by the burst main are Bell Gully, St Barnabas, Mount Friendship, sections of Howell’s Cross Road, Two Mile Hill, Haggatt Hall and surrounding areas.
Harris-Griffith said in addition to repairing the burst main at Tichbourne, BWA has four other confirmed burst mains, ranging in size from three inches to 16 inches. There are also five suspected burst mains today.
A businessman in the area, Vernon Lewis of Lewis Concrete, also assisted the BWA crew.
