Stories of the sporting exploits of late businessman Ralph Johnson brought smiles to several faces in the chapel of Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens in Christ Church during the funeral service earlier today.

While observing social distancing and the other protocols related to novel coronavirus COVID-19, there was an appreciative turnout of family, friends and business associates, paying their respects to a man who was described as “a champion” in both his sporting and business life.

Tributes were paid by Johnson’s brother Paul, with whom he operated partnership businesses; former top Olympic sports administrator Steve Stoute; Johnson’s nephew Dean Straker speaking on behalf of Sir Emil Straker of the Merrymen, whom Johnson once managed; and by James Johnson, the son of Ralph Johnson.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley also attended the funeral for a brief period, before heading off to a meeting. (GC)
