The Barbados Meteorological Services is currently monitoring a tropical wave and an associated area of low pressure near 12N 35W or about 1 600 miles (2 600 km) to the east of Barbados.

A bulletin today said this feature, which could become a tropical depression, is presently embedded in the monsoon trough and is maintaining deep convective activity on satellite imagery.

Numerical model data is predicting that the area of low pressure will move west to west-northwest across the Tropical Atlantic, passing well north of Barbados on Friday.

Adequate moisture and marginally favourable upper level conditions over the next few days could result in the slow development of the wave into a tropical depression.

The public is advised to monitor official sources for updates from the Barbados Meteorological Services over the next few days. The next update will be at noon on Wednesday, or sooner if conditions warrant. (PR)
