Love’s actions deemed reckless

Reckless and positive for COVID-19.

That was how Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes described the actions of Elliott Joe Love, the boyfriend of British former model and reality TV star Zara Holland, who left his hotel without checking out, got into a taxi and headed to Grantley Adams International Airport in an attempt to flee the island, all the while positive for COVID-19.

And while his financial situation was not the same as Holland’s, thereby negating a $12 000 fine, said Chief Magistrate Weekes, it certainly warranted one higher than $6 000.

As a result, he fined him $8 000 in seven days or nine months in prison. The fine was paid, and Love, who was scheduled to leave the island yesterday, thanked Barbados’ medical staff.

Love, 30, made an appearance in the District “D” Magistrates’ Court yesterday, two days after Holland appeared before the same court. (HLE)
