Tristan down for 100m heats

Tristan Evelyn will be first out of the blocks for Team Barbados when the eagerly awaited track and field portion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gets underway today.

The 23-year-old sprinter will contest the opening heats of the women’s 100 metres dash beginning at 11 p.m. local time.

Evelyn, who currently attends the University of Houston where she is coached by nine-time Olympic gold medallist Carl Lewis, qualified for the Games after posting a new national record and personal best 11.14 seconds at the 2021 American Outdoor Track And Field Championships in Florida in May.

Evelyn’s time was the second fastest in programme history for the university and she was also part of the Cougars’ 4×100 metre relay squad which posted a meet record time of 42.84 seconds. (NM)
