Eight media workers were rewarded with certificates from The Barbados Association of Journalists and Media Workers (BARJAM), for their gallantry in coverage of the volcano eruption in St Vincent and the Grenadines in April 2021.
They are Colville Mounsey and Sandy Pitt of The Nation, Akeel Lovell from Starcom Network Inc., Kobie Broomes and Kareem Smith from Barbados Today, Katrina King of Loop Barbados and Krystal Hoyte and Sharika Griffith of the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation.
The certificates were presented during a brief ceremony at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday.
In his brief remarks, BARJAM president Keith Goddard said it was important to recognise people when they were with us and not when they were gone, and to also commend good work.
“Since April this year when these young people were asked to travel by boat to St Vincent and the Grenadines to be able to provide coverage of the eruption of the La Soufriére volcano, we thought it courageous that any effort to enter into a country with a volcano and not knowing the possible outcome would be worth rewarding.”
He said based on the stories, features that he read and saw, the reporters and photographers are well deserving of the recognition by the association.
Among those attending the presentation were Vice President of BARJAM Ryan Broomes, floor members Maria Bradshaw and Wendy Burke and Anthony “Admiral” Nelson. (PR/SAT)
